Fun with Juicing!

I'm too young to be on blood pressure meds, but I am. I'm too young to be tired all the time, but I am. I want to set an example for our 9 year old who I already see making poor choices when it comes to food. It got me to thinking and the choice was made. I will stop eating crap all the time, I will eat more whole, healthy foods and teach my family that healthy tastes better than the golden arches.

So I watched some documentaries, read some stuff, and talked with my vegan, hippie cousin.

It's been a little over 2 weeks. I start my day out by juicing every morning. I did a great deal of research on juicers and thought "crap, these things are expensive" but with the help of co-workers who were also interested in juicing we found a great juicer that was only $50! I immediately ran out and got it! For a starter juicer, it's great. Here's a link in case you're interested: http://www.samsclub.com/sams/bella-juicer/prod7620175.ip?navAction= (Sams Club) http://www.bellaappliances.com/countertop-internal.php?id=551 (Manufacturer's website). I've already decided and told my husband that I want the cold press juicer for christmas http://www.bellaappliances.com/countertop-internal.php?id=616

So it's been about 3 weeks since I got the juicer, I've been juicing for 4 weeks (borrowed my cousin's juicer first) and I've lost 11 pounds :-) I'm eating less, processed food doesn't taste good, and  I feel better. I'm really enjoying coming up with recipes.

My son was skeptical at first and liked to watch the produce get chopped up but would sip the juice a bit, say it was good, and then come up with some sort of excuse as to why he couldn't have more than a sip (he was full, the juice was too "sweet", etc.) I was feeling discouraged but I've been persistent and now he's starting to suggest recipes for us to make, he's drinking more of the juice, and asking for things like more Kale and Spinach in the juice! We're getting there, now time to bring Daddy to the dark side (insert evil hippie laugh here lol).

Chi, Chi, Chiiiiiiii!!!!!

Today I dedicate my blogging to my little dog Simon. I've decided to do this b/c of the adorable pic I put up yesterday. Soon to come there will be a dedication to the husband and child. It will be in no particular order b/c I love them all!!

Simon is a handsome Chihuahua, 2 years in age. He's rambunctious, high strung and mellow. He can demonstrate all these characteristics and then some in a matter of mere minutes! He loves with his whole little--yet big-- heart and is always there to lick my ears which is his way of saying "I love you".

Ode To Simon (all the things I (we) love about you!)

  • The way you randomly bark out the patio doors even though no one is there.
  • The way you lay across the back of the love seat so you can get a better view out the back window. (A picture will inevitably be posted of this)
  • The way you wait until Daddy and I are ready to go to sleep and shove your squeaky toy in our faces until we throw it for you.
  • The way you balance on my side when I'm lying down and perch yourself there as though you're claiming me.(You do this to Daddy too and I know he loves it!)
  • The all body grumbles and growls that come out of you when we play rough with the toys. You're a tough little cookie!
  • The way your little tongue sticks ever so slightly out of your mouth when you're curiously wondering something.
  • How you chew on your toe nails to try and help me out so I don't have to trim them so much!
  • The fact that you can stand on your back legs for a very long time and dance around until I either give you a treat or pick you up.
  • How I know you aren't crazy about me putting clothes on you but you let me anyway (in my defense I only do it in the Winter b/c you'd freeze your little booty off otherwise).
  • The way you howl/whine at the security alarm if it goes off.
  • The way you burrow under the covers and lean against me or Daddy when it's bed time or when you're cold.
  • The way you lick the water off my legs when I get out of the shower.

Additionally, I know that Skyler absolutely loves it when you lick up his nose. Daddy and I find it nasty but Skyler likes it when you lick him period....

We love you little dog and I don't know what we'd do with out you. You are like a hairy version of a child who doesn't talk back. We love you!
